The news of God's Word in  the Arab World

LEBANON lebanon_flag.gif (969 bytes)

The Evangelical churches have experienced a relative slow growth period this last year. The main factor to blame is the suppressing opposing effect of the nominal churches in Lebanon. Unfortunately some Evangelicals Pastors are beginning to be swayed toward ecumenism, and as a result the preaching is becoming lukewarm in their churches. Pray for the faithful few to persevere and multiple in order to complete the work of the church in Lebanon. Encouraging reports were transmitted to us about the effective work being done in Northern Lebanon.

IRAQ iraq_flag.gif (492 bytes)

Five Evangelical churches are the burgeoning nucleus of the future of Christianity in Iraq. Without a doubt we can say that revival has began in Iraq. Every church is filled to capacity and serious talks are being made with the government about establishing the sixth Evangelical church.

EGYPT egypt_flag.gif (859 bytes)

The church is showing continued growth and resilience in the midst of mounting hostilities and pressures by the extremists groups. Most churches are located in Cairo, Alexandria, and in Upper Egypt. The Evangelical Church of Egypt leads the group with a total of 320 churches and almost 300,000 members. Other groups include the Free Methodists (120 churches) Assemblies of God (100 churches) and the Brethren. Pray that the Christians in Egypt persevere in their witness despite the constant threat and actual dangers they are living under. Praise God for the continued growth.

The Christian literature production continues to be very active. Pray that sound and effective Christian books will continue to be produced and translated in Egypt.

PALESTINE palestin_flag.gif (353 bytes)

The church seems to be emerging in the midst of a tense atmosphere. Pray for the Baptist churches in Haifa and in Nazareth. Pray also for the Brethren church in Koufr yassif, Pray also for the Nazarene church in the city of Nazareth.

SUDAN sudan_flag.GIF (390 bytes)

The church is a suffering church and continues to be the fastest growing field of all the Arabic world. It needs our support and prayers. At times there has been incidents of actual crucifixion of Christians in Susan. Despite this the decisions to follow Christ are made daily at the rate of 25000 decisions per year. Pray that this tremendous force will be discipled adequately and be used mightily by the Lord. Pray for the many national and Egyptian missionaries who are continuing with their aggressive evangelism in the south. Pray for the government to ease it's persecution to the Christian minority. The Presbyterians lead the growth in Sudan with 286 churches and over 100,000 members. Pray for the Arabic church in the North which is minute. The majority of Christians are from the South.

JORDAN  jordan_flag.gif (824 bytes)

The Evangelical Church continues to experience a steady growth. All denominations appear to be doing well. A special prayer needs to be voiced for the Brethren Assemblies for the huge vacuum left by the loss of the beloved Bro, Roy Whitman. Pray that new leadership will emerge among the brethren churches and also for a new convenient local for Amman Free Evangelical Church. The summer Christian camps are a major source of growth that are worthy to be prayed for.

 SYRIA  syria_flag.gif (399 bytes)

The Evangelical Church is growing all over Syria. The Lord is adding to the number of believers in almost all sectors. Particular growth seems to be taking place in the regions of Lattaquich in the west. Hasake in the North, and Houran in the south. More Christian workers are needed in Syria. The Alliance churches seem to be taking the lead among the Evangelicals.  We need to pray for the leadership of the church in Syria that more committed and responsible workers will be raised by the Lord. Pray that continued evangelism and sound teaching will bring many more into the already established churches. We praise God for the freedom enjoyed by the Christians living there.
